To Journal Or Not To Journal
I have been writing. Well mostly anyway. I have never been one for diaries or journals, yet here we have a blog, which is often used as one. Being a private sort of chap, I do not like to share either in private or public. I have never been one to complete a journal as an exercise for a course either. Sitting down to write one I usually get to “I did this” and that’s it.
Yet they say the more writing you do, the better you become, and the editing process has shown me that is true. I think I am getting better. So maybe I should give it a try, especially since as part of the marketing for The Spiral Tattoo I will be doing guests posts on fellow writer’s blogs.
The thing is I am a little self conscious about my writing. The more a type the more grammatical and spelling errors everyone will see. Also you might become aware of the terribly formal style I have in writing. I was thinking about that the other day, as the E.I.C. pointed out that rather noticeable style in some of my writing. I think it is because I am aware of some of my shortcomings, so I try to overcompensate when writing.
So let’s try this journal writing thing… Umm I got up this morning and went to work? Nay that’s inane… I should be writing The Oaks Grove after all I have deadlines people… That’s moderately interesting….
Maybe tomorrow I will have something to say?
Actually, to be accurate I have lots to say, I just write them in my head as I walk to and from work. And then forget what I wanted to write, or find since I have mentally written the post I don’t want to write it again.
Sad huh?
I Should Be Writing, Or Something Along Those Lines
Here, there, anywhere. I should be writing.
Really I have been shockingly shameful in my keyboard tapping duties recently. I have posted here since last month!
Well we had better do something about it. I have been struggling out of the spotlights recently, having a serious case of the writers block. It has even extended to blogging.
So, enough with CivV, and Little Big Planet, hello blank word-processing pages. Also pictures. We shall post pictures and recipes again. I need to get back int he habit of writing. If a large number of random, and somewhat meaningless posts appear, then you know I am writing through the wall.

A Happy New Year Bush Walk
Happy New Years Folks! It has been a good new year for us after a hectic year. 2010 will go down as one busy year, and 2011 looks to be, while less hectic and stressful, equally exciting.
We have been to the beach and on a bush walk, and as a sign of my slight relaxing on the rules of posting photos I have a couple of photos of both events
A Bad Blogger
I was looking at my recent posts, and I realised I have been a bad blogger….
What’s worse I forgot to bring my camera so I could take a photo from the office window!
We shall have to do something about both of those things
In the meantime, if you could all lean out the window and blow some rain our way [that is towards Dannevirke] that would be appreciated!
We Haz No Internet
I am sure you are thinking “but how are you posting this?”….
Shush I am posting at work…
You see our modem has died, and we are waiting for a new one to be delivered. Seeing as how our mail works that might be a while…. So new uploads of episodes might be delayed.. Sigh
All’s Quiet On The Blogging Front
What with one thing and another, things have been rather quiet on the blogging front.
I blame the weather! It’s too cold to think
Tomorrow is the littlest’s fourth birthday, so excitement abounds at Entfarm. The cake promises to be a thing of beauty, so pictures will be required
Social Media And Writing
As a wannabe writer, a bit of a technophile, a librarian and someone interested in society, the whole interaction between writer and reader via the Internet has an interest beyond the advertising potential. The various ways and ease of communication is fascinating to watch, with a myriad of issues springing up to consume the little grey cells.
For instance just how much information does one share in their writing project? And if one becomes successful as a writer how much does one want readers to link back to their blog. One of the reasons I started writing this blog was to prompt my writing, and it has been successful in that. But then if I finish my story, record it for podiobooks and then sell it, will I want this place to be the place people go to find information about me and my writing. I am beginning to suspect not.
And how much to share? One writer I read and follow has one of those experiences lately. Laurell K Hamilton who writes the Anita Blake series, blogs and twitters, and while writing the latest Anita story has come to a point where she thinks she has shared to much. When writing a scene where one of her major characters dies, she twittered about how emotional it was to kill off a character even though she didn’t really want to. Now she is unsure how to continue her normal blogging and twittering without giving away the secret of who she has killed off. In this case the immediacy and ease of communication with the fans, may have back fired.
It certainly gives me something to think about.
Welcome And Something About The Writers!

Entfarm
Welcome to this blog. This is the blog of a couple of tree hugging rural bibliophiles.
Me, I’m Michael Parry, I am the Technical Service Librarian for the Tararua District Library. I have recently got right into social media/web2.0, hence this blog. I write for two other blogs, the Tararua Library blog and The Room of Infinite Diligence. I am very interesting in Digital Communities and heritage. I can also be found on Twitter. I am also into growing fruit trees, chickens, reading and writing.
My Editor-In-Chief and main conspirator for mad plans thinks she will also like to pop on and say some things from time to time, so I will leave it up to her to introduce herself…
So what will you read here? Well pretty much anything we want to put up!
You won’t get too much on libraries, as I will leave that for the other blogs. You will get thoughts on philosophy, writing, society, trees, and our next madcap scheme. Currently we are in the process of moving our house from it’s current locale, to the five acre block where we have planted 100 fruit trees.
