The Random Post of Randomness

This post consists of words. The purpose of these words is to maintain my posting on the blog everyday this year and I have little to say.

Actually it has been a good day. We all arose early this morning and went down to the river to fish. The swimming creatures were safe as all we caught were leaves, but it was enjoyably peaceful. We baked bread, bagels and chocolate fairy cakes this morning, and I played Sonic Unleashed [PS3] with the boys for a couple of hour. Terribly bad parenting probably but made up for it by fishing and baking. :-)

In the afternoon we headed to Woodville and hit the second hand shops. Mr11 found a Star Trek Encyclopedia and some Star Trek novels. Mr5 found some small cocktail skewers and a book on how to make boomerangs. We bought some chips from the Fish and Chip shop and headed home for a game of Settlers of Catan – which I won!

Hmmm It looks like I did have some stuff to say :-)

What Have I Done? The Monster That Is Family Time Settlers Of Catan!

When I bought Settlers of Catan with my Christmas money I thought it was a  game I enjoy and maybe Mr11 would like it to. Little did I realize the monster I would unleash! I thought we might play it once in fortnight at most. But no – with both kids thoroughly loving it it has to be whipped out *every* day! Mr11 is constantly plotting how to win the next game ( and try’s to persuade Mr5 to join him in beating up on dad). Mr5 is happy buying development cards to get largest army. :-)

The Further Geekification Of Mr 11 – Indoctrination Into Dungeons And Dragons

The eldest child, Mr 11, loves playing games with the parental units, as does the youngest Mr 5.  Both have taken to Settlers of Catan, which is good if not a little frightening especially as Mr 5 has picked up the rules (for 10+) really quickly.

I had intended not to let Mr 5 play, but he has been so keen, and when he watched us play picked up the rules. :-)

I need to find something to play with MR 11, so have decided to indoctrinate, I mean teach him, with the rules of Dungeons and Dragons.  While his reading skills are well above needed Mr 11 is not one for doing a lot of reading, and sometimes gets lost in the details by focusing too much on one set.

I have 3rd Ed D & D and also the basic set of 1st ed D & D. I am thinking I will start him on Basic as the rules are a lot less complex.

I am looking forward to some old school role playing
