An Interesting Weekend Of Sales

When my publisher said last week that they wanted to try to give The Spiral Tattoo a boost by giving it away for a day I was a little bit hesitant. I didn’t really see what that would do, but thought lets promote it and see what happens.

Well for the 24 hours it was free it was quite exciting seeing the book march up the Free book rankings, reaching the lofty heights of #343! While I can’t actually see how many were downloaded there must have been a goodly number, and the thought of a lot of people reading my work brings a warm glow to the heart. :-)

I was really interested to see how that flowed over into today when the story went back to being $US0.99, and so far it seems to have had a positive effect. I have had another 5star rating (my third) and there has been quite a large number of sales.Last I looked it was back up to #24,000 in the paid, which is only 13,000 off it’s highest previously achieved spot, and obviously there has been some paid sales :-)

So Much Excitement

How can one contain oneself…

There is a Pre-Order Page at Sky Warrior Books where you can pre-order The Spiral Tattoo for a bargain $US0.99

Shameless Self Promotion

The start of the shameless self-promotion starts with myself plastering all over as much of the web as I can the new cover art for The Spiral Tattoo

Writing And Gastroenteritis

In the T.M.I. file, the tummy bug that hit our eldest lad halfway over the Tasman sea has swept through the house. First the littlest fellow had it on Sunday, and then the E.I.C. today. I await my turn with trepidation, as it is not a pleasant bug.

On the writing front, I have had something of a renewal in motivation. This week there has been a number of positive reviews posted about The Spiral Tattoo, with approval given to both the writing and the narration!

I have decided though that I will start limiting my comments on writing to my other site. That is where I want to build my profile as a writer, and I think it will be more appropriate to post there.

It’s Late At Night But The Podcast Is Complete

It’s done. Finished. Complete.

I have uploaded the last episode, herself no longer needs to be locked in the cupboard, I no longer need to plug myself into the computer. :-)

Now maybe I get get back to writing

But seriously, it’s a good moment. Even if I have spotted bits that need some serious editing….

Two Partial Success’ Gives Great Hope

Two partial success’ in two days has given me great hope for the eventual sale of The Spiral Tattoo, and brought great excitement to the household.

Firstly an agent has asked to see the next section of the story. Yeah. I know that doesn’t mean any guarantee of representation, as the next stage after that is a full manuscript evaluation, and even after that there is no guarantee either. It is however exciting to get the toe through the door. The crack slowly widens :-)

Also, I had sent the manuscript to a smaller publisher who has an open submission policy. They are interested, but as they are a small outfit, and their production schedule is full at the moment, cannot progress at this time. They did say that early next year when their schedule is open they would like to check my progress at selling  and then take it to the next stage.

First Feedback From A Stranger…

Most exciting! There was feedback on the story posted over night and it was good … :-) I am so happy…

Dance the little jig of joy…

Thanks Larry you have made my day….

It’s All Go Live: The Spiral Tattoo On Podiobooks

It’s very exciting.

The podcast of The Spiral Tattoo is live.  I am releasing them on the new site http://michaeljparry.com/ but the main place for it to be found will be here http://www.podiobooks.com/title/the-spiral-tattoo/ :-)

It’s really exciting, but I must refrain from stat watching.

It’s cool to see where people are listening to the story. Already I have an international audience, which sort of blows my mind. Now I just have to what to see what people think of it and hope they like it.

In Which I Confess To Being A Bad Blogosphere Book Circle Writer And I Seek An Agent

At the beginning of the year I decided to expand my reading and contribute to a online book-club.  After a hiss and a roar I have fallen woefully behind. :-(

Yes I am a bad member of the Blogosphere Book Circle. All I can say in my defense is that I have been so caught up in writing that I haven’t actually been reading that much this year. Which in itself is not a good thing… So must read more, and see if I can catch up.

The other thing I have been exploring is the world of query letters to agents. As lots of publishers only take manuscripts from literary agents, you need to send your baby, I mean manuscript, to the agent first. It is a little disheartening to get rejected by the people who knock on the door! There are very few agents in New Zealand, [I have found four] so I am sending of to American agents. Besides the big publishing houses are based in the States, and that’s the market you so want to tap.

Any way query letters are really troublesome things to write. I am not a natural salesman so writing a sales pitch is difficult. It is a different skill set to writing stories or blog posts. So tonight, find another agent and be brave! :-) One day I will get a yes!
